Our bread is hand-shaped and then baked slowly at a low temperature to maximise nutrition and develop the unique flavour.

Essene Bread predates the invention of the flour mill; instead of flour, the bread is made from 100% whole sprouted grains.

We dont use any preservatives in our bread so Essene bread needs to stored in the fridge or freezer.

We make Essene bread weekly in small batches, and the process takes 3 days of preparation so it may pay to contact you local shop to check availability.

Our bread has no yeast, salt, sugar, or oil making it ideal for those with allergies or special dietary requirement.  Many diabetics choose to eat our bread.

We choose to support New Zealand Biogro certified organic grain farmers so you can be assured your Essene Rye bread is made from certified organic rye grains grown in the South Island.

Purple Wheat - an ancient grain.  Unmodified, non GMO, non Hybridized.  Rich in anthocyanins, and saccarides which are natural plant sugars that give this bread a 'sweet' flavor like no other.

Spelt - an old variety of Wheat that has a different gluten enzyme to other Wheat strains. Many people find they can eat Spelt even with gluten intolerance has it has a different gluten enzyme to the other varieties.  It is also non GMO and not a Hybrid variety.

We are blessed to have pure natural spring water on the property where your bread is made, which naturally vitalizes and enriches the goodness of the bread.

Availability

It takes 3 days to prepare for a bake.

Monday is bake day !

Orders made on a Monday or Tuesday will not be ready until the following week.

Orders made Wed to Friday will be ready by the Monday following

Storage

 

Our bread has no preservative in it so needs to be

kept in the fridge.  It will keep for weeks and stays moist if kept in an airtight wrapping.  If you are buying in bulk it freezes well.
